My second day in Copan Ruinas, Honduras the local Health Center hosted their monthly "Pregnant Women's Club." Women receive free prenatal checkups, prenatal vitamins, and a workshop about maternal and child health. We also passed out over 120 items of baby clothes, receiving blankets, reusable diapers, bibs, and baby hats. These items were donated by YOU! The women were very grateful. Most of the women come from the indigenous Mayan aldeas (villages) that are in the mountains surrounding Copan. They live in abode huts with dirt floors, they depend on subsistence farming, and have very little income. These women have little access to health care, and mostly have their babies at home with local midwives. This program has helped identify at risk pregnancies, to get women extra assistance before it is too late. Around 80 women come to the Health Center for "Pregnant Women's Club."
